Liu'an Guapian , also known as " Liu An Gua Pian ," is a premium green tea produced in the city of Liu'an in Anhui Province, China. It gets its name from the pumpkin-seed-shaped tea leaves.
The history of Liuan Guapian dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). According to legend, this tea was already highly prized for its flavor and medicinal properties and was supplied annually to the Chinese imperial court.
To produce Liu'an Guapian, only the second-from-the-top leaf from each branch of the tea bush is used. Harvesting occurs in early spring, when the leaves are still young and full of flavor. Liu'an Guapian is classified as a baked tea, which largely determines its unique flavor and distinguishes it from other green teas.
Roasted tea is a special type of tea that undergoes a special roasting process over charcoal. This process can take over 5 hours. During roasting, the tea leaves are exposed to high temperatures, which creates a unique flavor and aroma. The result is a product with a distinctive, smooth taste and smoky notes of roasted tea.
At the same time, Liu'an Guapian has absolutely no smoky notes. The rich aroma of forest herbs with floral and fruity notes takes center stage. The tea's flavor is deep, complex, and balanced, with a subtle sweetness and a lingering, slightly sweet finish. Subtle toasted notes of sunflower and pumpkin seeds linger only in the aftertaste.
